Nature of the Position:

This position overseas the Mission to Seafarers Southern Ontario (MTSSO) finances and governance.

Outline of Responsibilities:

  • Member of the MTSSO Executive
  • Handle receipt, banking and protection of MTSSO funds
  • Develop an annual budget for MTSSO and create long-term projections based on needs and upcoming capital projects
  • Maintain an efficient system of policies that adequately control treasury activities
  • Ensure sufficient funds are available to cover operational and capital investments needs
  • Prepare monthly financial reports
  • Ensure all corporate filings are up-to-date
  • Attend Executive and Board of Director’s meetings, approximately two hours per month
  • Fundraising, sponsorship and donations
  • Communication connections and networking
  • Work with the Executive in the creation of grant applications
  • Dedication of approximately three hours per month of treasury’s work separate from meeting attendance
  • Assist with events
  • Attend volunteer meetings and training events as required

Skills and Experience:

  • MBA or other advance degree in finance, economics, statistics of similar fields
  • Five years or more experience in corporate financial management
  • Proficient with financial software systems
  • Proven working knowledge of banking industry rules and regulations
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communications and presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel
  • Willingness to “pitch in” at all levels and all activities

Boundaries and Limitations:

  • Will comply with the policies and guidelines of the Anglican Diocese of Niagara. This position demands a high degree of confidentiality and as such, a Confidentiality and Privacy Statement must be signed by the volunteer
  • Adheres to the Diocesan Sexual Misconduct Policy: Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Assault
  • Adheres to the Diocesan Guidelines for Working with Vulnerable People
  • Accountable to the Mission for Seafarers Southern Ontario Chaplains
  • Appropriate confidentiality around conversations with staff, volunteers and seafarers
  • Maintain a safe environment for themselves and for the person(s) to whom they are ministering
  • Adheres to the Seafarers’ Ministry Convent for Value and Conduct in the Port of Hamilton

Support, Supervision and Training:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Chaplains to the Mission to Seafarers Southern Ontario
  • Orientation training
  • Support from the Diocese of Niagara through the Anglican Chaplain and Deacon
  • A minimum of monthly meetings with volunteer coordinator
  • Completion of safety training
